The peristaltic pump is a kind of leak free positive displacement pump that operates by squeezing and releasing a flexible hose to generate flow. It uses a rotating mechanism with rollers or shoes that compress the tube against a fixed housing or track, creating a series of occlusions that move along the length of the tube. As the occlusion progresses, it pushes the fluid trapped in the tube forward. Due to the special working principle, users also call it hose pump, tube pump or squeeze pump.

Principle of Peristaltic Pump

On its rotor, there are two or more pressure rollers or sliding shoes. These rollers or shoes alternately squeeze the hose to divide the hose into different sections of enclosed space. Consequently, there is vacuum appears in the hose. The vacuum generates suction force to suck the medium into the hose and then squeeze it out. This working process is similar to the peristalsis of human intestines. Therefore, the pump is called peristaltic pump, hose pump or squeeze pump.

A hose is the core component of a peristaltic pump. Generally, there are three layers on the hose: the inner layer, middle layer and outer layer. SeFluid’s hoses have an inner layer of special rubber. The high quality inner rubber is specially for application with corrosive and abrasive fluids. For middle layer of reinforcement, the material is high quality nylon. This nylon enables the hose to withstand pressures up to 16 bars. Moreover, it has excellent fatigue resistance.

Meanwhile, for the outer layer, the material is high quality wear-resistant rubber. This type of rubber strengthens the strength of the hose. In addition, it has excellent wear resistance ability and can withstand frequent rolling and high temperatures generated by friction. No Need of Lubricant

In current market, most peristaltic pump brands use a sliding shoe as squeezing device. The contact between the squeezing device and the hose is by means of sliding friction. In order to reduce damage to the hose from the sliding friction, it is necessary to fill in the pump cavity with a large amount of lubricant. Besides, users need to replace the lubricant after extended use or when replace the hose. Replacing the lubricant is cumbersome, time-consuming and costly. Furthermore, the replaced lubricant has the potential to contaminate the environment.

Moreover, after the hose has reached its service life, it may rupture unexpectedly for special reasons. Then the lubricant may penetrate directly into the pumped fluid. Consequently, serious contamination of the fluid may occurs. For industries such as pharmaceuticals or foodstuffs, this will make very serious consequences.
